The Liberal Problem in America

Donald Trump brought the void to the entire liberal establishment. He brought it emptiness and confusion and, more importantly, he brought it fear of the American people. The liberal sun is setting in the West, and all that remains for its worshippers is an unbearable sorrow for the power they have lost, of bewilderment and anger, a sense of the lengthening shadows of their irrelevance, and a gathering realization that, from having dwelt within the deep corruption of the Obama administration, they have nothing to offer the people but their old socialist handbooks, their consuming hatred for the new president, and a roiling temper of revenge.

The liberal mind is a dark place — an irrational, predatory, enslaving, and uncivilizing influence. It has become its own refuge, its own closed system of thought and behavior, its own electric carnival of delusions. It can switch reality on and off with the swipe of a finger. It can turn wishful clay on a magic potter’s wheel until it has made new creeds out of its own lies and new religions out of government. Its proselytes have placed their left hands upon Marx and sworn an oath of fealty to a pernicious ideology of power. Not only have its priests and ministers raised society above the individual in their egalitarian rituals, but they have also elevated the state above society. They eulogize “diversity” and “inclusion” in their propaganda, but when the diverse and the included have entered the great House of Liberal Thought, the wide doors close behind them, and they are not permitted to leave.

In Philip K. Dick’s sci-fi classic, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, the remnants of humanity that have not emigrated off-world live in cities perpetually darkened by the clouds and radioactive dust of a post-Terminal War. The people dwell in communities that are neither society nor civilization. With most forms of life made extinct by war, they have created animal and human counterfeits to merge with the remaining culture as a necessary means of survival. No one knows with certainty if anything is real, and no one cares to ask. Better to live with viable simulacra and mood-altering machines than to acknowledge the truth of what intelligence gone wrong had made of the world. Reality is only a suggestion — and even the androids think they are human.

The liberal establishment is too much like this closed, unavailing, dysfunctional state following the Trump apocalypse. Liberals have fallen into a slough of nihilism, for a high tide of common sense has poured over their little castles made of sand; and now they must survive on the products of weak imagination and alternative certainties, on implanted memories of things that never were and on the futility of things that cannot be. Their unreality, however, is a dynamic medium, changeable with art and perfectible with language. To speak this language is to speak a terrible ignorance that misinforms with purpose, an ignorance that does not tolerate correction — a language that makes hatred possible. And if they can survive on the authorship of their own fictional reality, one can only wonder at their infinite capacity for self-delusion. To lie and believe the lie is to forswear one’s humanity; and one might therefore ask of liberals if they too think they are human.

It is a universal irony that the study of democratic societies should often prove a history of free peoples searching for tyrants to enslave them. One has only to examine the bloody record of democratic origins and endings to understand the multifold opportunities available to radical interests for exploitation and overthrow. Although America’s republican form of government provides the greatest resistance to despotic methods, it cannot entirely escape the vulnerabilities inherent to the democratic process itself. We now find our nation disturbed by the cultish and non-moral spirit of intellectual dishonesty, error and arrogance that defines the liberal problem in America, for although liberal activists have proven the perfect stewards of the nation’s political and cultural decline, yet they scorn the world that offers no thanks for their instruction.

It is the definitive modern liberal conceit: that the world waits upon instruction. There are legitimate spaces in our literature for fantasy and imagination, but handbooks on racial politics and social justice are not among them. Liberalism is a mythos of political narratives in which the settled laws of human nature do not apply, thus allowing for an infinite range of social theories to flourish and multiply unconnected to reality. Its poets do not answer to reason; rather, they are hard-wired to the sentiments that direct reason towards misshapen ends. The ability to persuade oneself with one’s own lies, to willingly forfeit one’s conscience to the tribe, and to justify one’s own corruption by teaching it to others is a genius discovered only in a truly liberal intelligence. The modern cult of liberalism thus affords some gratification to the uncounted numbers of unfinished minds desperately looking for a great lie to believe in — for the lie shall set them free of conscience, personal responsibility and the burden of defending freedom itself.

History is the axis of every passing moment. We participate in the constant turning of that necessary human study and its promise of greater understanding. A long familiarity with the ungovernable forces of human nature must precede all political reflections. Only through that gate are we allowed to proceed along a determined course of right action. The study of history informs us, however, that we are now caught in the march of folly — bitter, repetitive clashes of misguided ideology and founding principles — in which each succeeding administration of our government, in order to accomplish its ends, must first destroy the works of its predecessor. If this is not folly, then the word has no meaning. Folly is a universal solvent — a progressive agent of change. In its triumph, it has reduced many forms of government to an elemental sludge; and its influence is certain to continue through American politics, as the authors of liberal doctrine have promised a Stalinist annihilation of history itself.

History is abandoned when social theorists believe they know all the answers. According to the leftist handbooks, democracies are little more than precursor states with limited life spans, necessary procedural stages for a new authoritarian world order ultimately without political parties, without choice, without freedom, but with an absolute promise of social equality — reminiscent of the old Soviet bloc system. The prospect of eventual one-party rule is the reason why leftists regard democracy so highly; and that length of darkness is the path that liberal instruction is now taking the Democratic Party.

Every presidential election, from this moment onward, will represent a hinged point in the trajectory of historical freedom — an unequivocal turning towards or turning from the founding principles of our nation. The world anticipates 2021, the year in which Philip Dick set his post-apocalyptic tale. We should know by that time if progressive interests have recovered the political powers commensurate with their contempt for the American people, the great majority of whom, the left believe, are governable only by force. That reliable plantations have already been established by the left gives credence to their despotic sentiment, outlining the prototype and purpose of a new dystopian form of liberalism for the 21st Century.

The Left Is 'Spinning' Out of Control

The Democrats are addicted to spin, and it’s only getting worse.  Ever since Trump’s ascendance, they seem to have fully embraced the role of party of the straw man argument.  Any misdemeanor gaffe by Trump is instantly upgraded into an imagined capital offense and debated as such by left-wing mouthpieces in the media.  When the president proposes an expensive, strategically worthless Bastille Day-style military parade, for example, the reaction is automatic.

It’s hardly a shocker that Donald Trump is focusing his presidential energies on parades.   For decades, his name has been synonymous with pageantry and ostentation, so it comes as no surprise that his proclivity for ruffles and flourishes has followed him into the White House.  Even less surprising, however, has been the hysterical, overblown response from the Left.

“A military parade like this — one that is unduly focused on a single person — is what authoritarian regimes do, not democracies,” said Rep. Adam Smith, one of the leading House Democrats, clearly doing his best to associate Trump with the likes of Kim Jong-un.

Of course, Smith and fellow wolf-crying Democrats know that any such parade wouldn’t be “focused on a single person” like the spectacles of North Korea.  It’s an insult to the predominantly Republican military for liberals to even suggest such a possibility. The problem is that those on the Left can no longer help themselves.  They have simply become incapable of making nuanced critiques of questionable decisions by the president or raising prudent concerns about White House policies.  Their knee-jerk reaction is to exaggerate and demonize Trump to the point where they appear flat-out ridiculous to any of us who haven’t sipped their Kool-Aid.

This worsening Democratic tendency has been showcased over and over during the last year and a half.  Recall the apoplexy after Trump, following his nomination, said he alone could fix the country’s problems.  This was a rather banal statement by The Donald’s standards, an egotist’s way of saying he’s the right man for the job.  Nonetheless, the Left hyperbolized it to point where one could be forgiven for assuming that the Republican nominee had just sworn to dissolve the republic and claim the title of American Caesar.

Or take a more recent example, when Trump joked to an Ohio audience that it would be no big deal to call his opponents in Congress treasonous (“Why not?”).  Democrats could have responded by rightfully complaining that a president, when domestic tensions are this high, shouldn’t kid around about treason.   Instead, however, instincts kicked in and they attacked the inappropriate quip as if it were a pre-meditated accusation made in total seriousness.

Apart from appearing ludicrous in public, Democratic leadership is damaging its long-term political prospects every time they resort to straw man tactics.  As they hack away at the Russian stooge or the aspiring Pol Pot, the real President Trump remains relatively unscathed.   Meanwhile, that president is transforming from an inexperienced blowhard to a seasoned commander-in-chief. In other words, the Left is missing golden opportunities to damage him when he is most vulnerable.

What’s more, by being so nakedly disingenuous, the Democrats are risking what is arguably their greatest strategic advantage: domination of most mainstream media.  For the time being, it is clear that major outlets are still often happy to parrot left-wing talking points.  Respective headlines from The New York Times and CNN after the Ohio speech proclaimed “Trump Accuses Democrats of Treason” and, more absurdly, “Donald Trump Thinks Not Clapping for Him is ‘Treasonous.’”   With this degree of media influence, it’s hard to blame Democrats for getting overconfident when shaping narratives.  What they may be ignoring, however, is the limit of public credulity.

Trump’s State of the Union speech was well received by Independents and even many Democratic voters, indicating that the battle for American hearts and minds is far from decided.  If events shift the public’s faith in favor of the president (say after the Russia investigation comes to naught), his “fake news” narrative could prevail, leaving the disarmed Dems face-to-face with an existential crisis.   Media outlets in that scenario will either have to cease being flagrantly biased for the Left or lose their mainstream status and any remaining pretense of objectivity.

The solution for Democrats should be obvious.  Rather than posturing as a contrived #Resistance to a phantom dictator, Democratic leadership should strive to maintain its party as a dignified and disciplined opposition to this often erratic White House.  If Trump turns out to be the inept leader they believe him to be, Democrats by 2020 could appear as the badly needed adults in the room.  On the other hand, if they continue to scream hysterically about an imaginary daemon-president, it is likely that, by election time, the public will think the only rooms they belong in should have padded walls.

Stuck on Stupid

A jab that has stood the test of time.  A phrase that I’m going to use to apply to first, the Democratic party.  Then to its vanguard, the so-called mainstream media.  And to it’s two so-called great families, the Clintons and the Obamas.

All:  Mired in, and stuck on, stupid.

It starts with the overwhelming self-generated conceit by the left that it’s smarter, better, and in all ways superior to the riff raff that surrounds it in the good old US of A.  Smarter than its opponents, morally superior to all, and simply outclassing all others.

They really believe that concept of superiority, particularly the incarnation that gave us Barack Obama.

That’s how they presented Barack Obama to us.  For all these years, despite a lot of evidence, in their eyes, Barack was the best.  Ever.  Smarter, morally superior, he couldn’t do less than ace everything he did.  He won the Nobel Peace Prize, he gave the best speeches, he outclassed everyone he touched.

Except he didn’t.

Try this as often as you want:  Ask an Obama supporter for three things he accomplished in his life that would make him a qualified and good president of the most powerful nation on earth.  Then ask for one.

There never was an answer to that question.  You’ll get crickets.

And unfortunately, no one stood up and pointed out the obvious.  That the emperor had no clothes.

Apologies to Sarah Palin.  She tried.  Her comment, “I guess a small-town mayor is sort of a community organizer.  Except you have actual responsibilities.”  Perfect in 20/20 hindsight.

Because this group got away with it, they began tothink evenmore highly of themselves, heck, they thought they could do anything.  Andget away with it.  Which is what they did.  They put their thumbs on the scales of every part of our government.  We first saw it when the IRS went after the Tea Party.

And they got away with that.  They effectively cowed, and took apart a powerful uprising of the American electorate.  There is no doubt.  They admitted they did it.  No one got in trouble.  Lois Lerner is happy with her pension.

So why not do that to every part of the government?

Obamacare would be administered by the IRS, so they had that covered.

Eric Holder, then his female clone, Loretta Lynch, decided they could totally tip the justice department, and form alliances with the FBI.  They knew they would get away with it, they had the media cowed, they had the Republican party cowed, and willing to be the political version of the Washington Generals versus the Harlem Globetrotters.

Except…….

There arrogance became a hubris that turned to stupid.

They became stuck on stupid.

They began when they selected Hillary Clinton as the heiress apparent.  She would get the same billing as Barrack.  Smartest woman in the world.  Most qualified, experienced candidate ever.

They should have known they had a problem on their hands when she couldn’t beat Bernie Sanders in any of the early primaries.  The man was a full bore, advertised socialist with the platform of Hugo Chavez.  He was 73, looked like it, acted like it, and the majority of Democratic party primary voters supported him.  Their voters were with him, not her.   It was the hint of hints that she couldn’t pull it off.

So, rather than realize she was a bad candidate,  they took Bernie out.  With the DNC, they took him out.  Superdelegates.  It was rigged.  And they did it in plain sight.

Hillary was perhaps worse, a dull candidate with tons of baggage, no real accomplishments, her voice was awful, and she did not look good.  And she was tired, and didn’t do the work to present herself to the American public as worthy.  And yet they picked her as the heiress apparent.  It worked with Barrack, why wouldn’t it work with her?

The smartest people in the world forgot an Alinsky rule.  Never let your con grow stale (my version of Alinsky rule # 7´”A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.” )  They got stuck on stupid.

And it got worse.  They developed this strategy of using their opposition research as FBI and DOJ “intel” to inject what they wanted into the body politic to take down the political foe who had the temerity to challenge them.  They fed it to their media friends.  Who dispersed it.

They put together the Steele dossier.  They were going to use it to destroy their opponent.  It would be easy.

Let me say something here.  How in the world could they have read what they paid some ten million dollars for? 17 memos from Steele that were laughably stupid.  Wasn’t one of them capable of seeing how stupid that dossier looked?  Just one?

Apparently not.

Because all the evidence shows they used that totally made up “dossier”  to start spying on every Trump association possible.  They actually went to the FISA court and presented this, as James Comey apparently called it, “salacious and unverified dossier” as proof for a warrant to spy on most of the Trump inner circle.

Was the FISA judge asleep?

Apparently so.  Many times.

Was James Comey asleep?  No, he got stuck on stupid.

Was the rest of the FBI on the seventh floor that unaware?  No, they got stuck on stupid.

They all got stuck.  From the highest down to the middle management.

Even George W Bush got caught up in the ridiculousness this week.  George, did you forget about that silver spoon you were born with in your mouth?  Jeff Flake, and John McCain, likewise.  Guys, you chose the wrong side.

You got stuck on stupid along with the Democratic/media complex.

How?

Simple.  Hubris to the max.

From the Book of Proverbs:

“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

Here we had a group that thought they were the smartest people ever born.  Barack.  Hillary.  Their inner circles.  Their appointed lackies in the FBI and DOJ.  Haughty hardly says it enough.  And yes, it is that simple.  The kind of fawning nonsense they were attributed to by the press, and they tried to pull off something this stupid?

And now they are falling.

Hard.

Did none of them actually read that dossier?  Did none of them decide, “Oh my God, this is the dumbest oppo research ever? And we paid almost ten mil for this?”

No.

Their arrogance convinced them they could do it.  They got away with so much in the past, why not continue.

“Never let your con grown stale.  Never give up the con.”

Well, they forgot that little fable about that emperor who had no clothes.  In the fable, it just took a little kid to say the obvious. But this is hardly a little kid.  This is the guy who beat the heiress apparent.   Who they all said could not.

When Trump tweeted about being “wiretapped” almost a year ago, does anyone now think he didn’t know how tangled this was, and how stupid and thin was their play?  Does anyone now think he hasn’t played his cards right?  God help them, they underestimated his capacity times ten.  No times a hundred.  The man is so many steps ahead of them.

While the media has been missing the biggest political story of their lives, they have been reporting on a story (made up by a paid oppo research guy) that was as stupid as the emperor walking out naked in his new “clothes”.  Russia/Russia/Russia.

Unfortunately, no one told them the obvious.  The smartest people in the world.

Stuck on stupid.

A giant thank you to General Russell Honore.  You did the world a favor with what you said back in 2005.

Your phrase is now officially resurrected for the present day.

That phrase comes from a press conference with General Russell Honore back in 2005.   It was a jab at the media for being mired in the past.

A well-placed jab.  One that is unforgettable.

A jab that has stood the test of time.  A phrase that I’m going to use to apply to first, the Democratic party.  Then to its vanguard, the so-called mainstream media.  And to it’s two so-called great families, the Clintons and the Obamas.
