Senior White House adviser Kellyanne Conway thinks the press would be more upset about a Democratic lawmaker saying she looked “familiar” on her knees if she were a liberal woman.

“And it is not just if I were a liberal woman, but if I were a pro-abortion one,” Conway said in a text to the Daily Caller.

Rep. Cedric Richmond, D-La., joked Wednesday that Conway “looked kind of familiar” in a photo of her kneeling on the couch in the Oval Office earlier this week.

“I really just want to know what was going on there,” Richmond said. “I won’t tell anybody, and you can just explain to me that circumstance because she really looked kind of familiar in that position there.”

Richmond released a statement Thursday morning denying that the comment was sexual.

“Since some people have interpreted my joke to mean something that it didn’t I think it is important to clarify what I meant,” Richmond said. “Where I grew up saying that someone is looking or acting ‘familiar’ simply means that they are behaving too comfortably.”

Conway said Richmond had not apologized to her.

“I notice he did not apologize, he tried to clarify,” she said.
