Newt Gingrich is calling for a new national debate on “fake education,” which he says is “underlying” the “fake news” that President Trump has fought against.

“President Trump is on to a very big historic dialogue about fake news,” Gingrich, an adviser to Trump during and after the campaign, tweeted Saturday morning, “Underlying fake news is fake education. We need national debate on this.” It’s unclear what exactly Gingrich is referring to.

The former House speaker cheered the Senate’s confirmation of Trump’s pick to run the Education Department, billionaire and school choice advocate Betsy DeVos, tweeting that it was a “real victory for parents and children choosing schools they need.”

Before the inauguration, Gingrich said he was concerned that a Trump administration might “lose their nerve” on certain issues in the face of Democratic opposition.

“I mean, if you’re serious about school choice, there is no agreement with the teachers’ unions,” Gingrich told ABC News at the time.
