President Trump’s approval rating is down to 38 percent and more than half of those polled don’t believe he’s honest, according to a new poll from Quinnipiac University.

The poll released on Wednesday showed Trump’s approval rating is dropping with each week. A poll from three weeks earlier showed a 42 percent approval rating for the new president.

Voters from the two parties are extremely polarized over Trump. The poll showed 83 percent of Republicans approve of the job Trump is doing while 91 percent of Democrats disapprove. Among independents, 38 percent of people approve of Trump’s time in office so far.

“President Donald Trump’s popularity is sinking like a rock,” said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll. “He gets slammed on honesty, empathy, level-headedness and the ability to unite. And two of his strong points, leadership and intelligence, are sinking to new lows. This is a terrible survey one month in.”

The poll showed Trump’s public relations strategy and constant fights with the media are wearing thin with voters.

While voters disapprove of how the media has covered Trump (50 percent disapprove of the media and 45 percent approve), the poll showed more voters trust the media than Trump. According to the poll, 52 percent of people trust the media more than Trump “to tell you the truth about important issues.”

In general, 55 percent of people don’t believe the president is honest.

“The media, so demonized by the Trump administration, is actually a good deal more popular than President Trump,” Malloy said.
