Intelligence officials have decided to intentionally keep sensitive information from President Trump out of concern he or his staff would leak or divulge it.

Details, including the sources and methods behind intelligence, have not been shared with the commander in chief on an undisclosed number of occasions, multiple officials familiar with the operation said in a report published Wednesday evening.

The choices to hold information from Trump came after the Republican leader publicly denounced the FBI, CIA, and Director of National Intelligence for their alleged leaking of information to hurt his image.

Intel officials said in this case, their decisions were motivated by Trump’s trustworthiness, unlike previous instances where it was not necessary to share those details with other presidents.

However, choosing to hold back details that previous presidents had been privy to is not normal. In light of the investigations into Trump’s current and former advisers who may have ties to Russian government officials, intelligence officers want to share as little critical information as possible until more is known about those investigations.

“There is nothing that leads us to believe that this is an accurate account of what is actually happening,” a White House official told the Wall Street Journal.

Trump lambasted intel agencies and the media again this week after a background source told reporters that his former campaign team and close associates had communicated with Russian intelligence and government officials.

“The real scandal here is that classified information is illegally given out by ‘intelligence’ like candy. Very un-American!” Trump tweeted on Wednesday.

Congress has launched a number of side investigations to the intelligence agencies’ to learn more about any illegal or unethical activity that may have taken place.
