Melissa McCarthy reprised her hugely popular role as White House press secretary Sean Spicer, which became a surprise viral hit last week on “Saturday Night Live.”

She strutted onto the White House press room set to cheers, stating, “First of all I’d like to announce that I’m calm now. And I will remain calm now as long as you sons of —” before she interrupted herself and sought to reach cool down with a giant “slice” of gum.

After mispronouncing the names of several Middle Eastern countries and foreign diplomats, McCarthy turns to recurring victim Glenn Thrush of the New York Times, who asks McCarthy about President Trump’s all-caps “SEE YOU IN COURT” tweet after the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the suspension of his immigration ban. McCarthy blustered that it was “the people’s court” to which Thrush responded “that’s not real” and McCarthy, in turn, mimicked him.

McCarthy took to her familiar box of props and dolls, to explain the immigration ban, yelling, “Spicey’s going to explain it so you dumb babies can understand what is going on.” She compared a blonde Barbie doll with a doll of the Disney Polynesian princess from “Moana” to depict who would and wouldn’t be allowed into the U.S.

After reading a list of fake terrorist attacks including the infamous Bowling Green Massacre, McCarthy accused Nordstrom of committing its own “light terrorism this week” when it dropped Ivanka Trump’s fashion line. The sketch turns into a “seen on TV” commercial as McCarthy starts to hawk Ivanka’s bracelet and shoes, complete with a pop-up chyron of the accessories’ prices.

Continuing the trend of Kate McKinnon playing a role in each sketch SNL’s Trump series, she arrived as a humpbacked Jeff Sessions who talks as if he has food in his mouth and rambles, “We know there are two kinds of crime, regular and black” before getting pushed off by McCarthy.

The subdued Spicer disappears as McCarthy gets confronted with contradicting facts over crime in Chicago and his mental well-being, attacking Cecily Strong and her skirt with a leaf blower and rolling the podium at the crowd.

This week’s host Alec Baldwin did not appear in the cold open but opened the show with a monologue touting his record-breaking hosting gig. The actor brings up that he first hosted in April 1990, and he and Pete Davison poked fun at their generational divide and Baldwin’s own lost good looks.

This is Baldwin’s 17th time hosting the late-night sketch comedy show, breaking his own record as the most frequent guest host.
