Fox used Olympic gymnast Simone Biles and entertainer and activist Harry Belafonte to deliver a message of unity shortly before Super Bowl kickoff.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,” Belafonte said.

“Our forefathers got it right 240 years ago. Equality, freedom, they belong to us all,” Biles added. “And in case we falter in our ways, they wrote it down for us to always remember and cherish. We, as Americans, have a duty to uphold and protect those rights. That is what unifies us. And the symbol of our unity has 50 stars and 13 stripes.”

The messages of Belafonte and Biles appeared to be a reference to the political divide in the U.S. President Trump has frequently promised to heal the divide.

Belafonte makes for an interesting choice by Fox to deliver the message. In December he compared Trump’s presidency to the Fourth Reich — a theoretical successor to Nazi Germany.

James Robart, the U.S. district judge in Washington State, offered little explanation for his decision to stop President Trump’s executive order temporarily suspending non-American entry from seven terror-plagued countries. Robart simply declared his belief that Washington State, which in its lawsuit against Trump argued that the order is both illegal and unconstitutional, would likely win the case when it is tried.

Now the government has answered Robart, and unlike the judge, Justice Department lawyers have produced a point-by-point demolition of Washington State’s claims.
