President-elect Trump slammed the “dishonest media” Thursday for saying that he agreed with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange over U.S. intelligence agencies regarding Russia’s hand behind the hacks into the Democratic National Committee and John Podesta’s emails.

“The dishonest media likes saying that I am in Agreement with Julian Assange – wrong,” Trump tweeted.

Trump said he simply stated what Assange said for the benefit of the people so that they can “make up their own minds” regarding the truth. “The media lies to make it look like I am against ‘Intelligence’ when in fact I am a big fan!” he said.

On Wednesday, Trump agreed with Assange’s view about the media, saying the media is “more dishonest than anyone knows.”

In a series of tweets, Trump criticized the Democrats for being “careless” about their cybersecurity. He said, “Julian Assange said ‘a 14 year old could have hacked Podesta,’- why was the DNC so careless? Also said Russians did not give him the info!”

In a campaign rally, Trump had stated a “400-pound kid” in a basement with a laptop could possibly be behind the hacks.

Assange in a Fox News interview Tuesday, said he agreed with Trump’s assessment that no one knows who is behind the cyberattacks. “We can say and we have said repeatedly: Our source is not the Russian government and it is not a state party,” Assange said.

Contrary to intelligence reports, Trump has denied Russia’s role in the cyberattacks leading up to the 2016 presidential election.

The FBI and Department of Homeland Security released a joint report in December that has shed light on how federal investigators concluded that Russia was behind the hacks. The Obama administration has defended the intelligence officials after Trump’s criticism of the intelligence findings.

“The ‘Intelligence’ briefing on so-called ‘Russian hacking’ was delayed until Friday, perhaps more time needed to build a case,” he tweeted Tuesday.

Trump adding quotation marks to the word “intelligence” was interpreted as sarcastic and irked many who saw it as a dig at the intelligence community.
