Steve Bannon, who will serve as one of President-elect Trump’s top White House aides, said the election outcome is to the credit of “hobbits” and “deplorables.”

In a radio interview published Friday, Bannon promised an “exciting” year ahead and said it would be a unique time for those who voted for Trump.

“The hobbits or the deplorables had a great run in ’16,” Bannon told “Breitbart News Daily,” which is produced by the website of which he was formerly the chief executive. “Everybody mocked them and ridiculed them, and now they’ve spoken. And I think ’17 is gonna be a very exciting year.”

During the campaign, Democrat Hillary Clinton memorably wrote off “half” of Trump’s supporters as belonging in a “basket of deplorables.”

She cast them as racist and bigoted, though later walked back the remarks several times during the election.

“We’ve lived through an historic time,” Bannon said. “I think they’ll talk about what happened in this year politically for many, many decades to come.”
