A former communications director for President George W. Bush compared president-elect Donald Trump’s desire for the press’ attention to an addict craving drugs.

“We’ve just elected a man who bullies female reporters at his rally as an applause line. We have just elected a man who started a hot war with a female anchor instead of attending a debate she moderated,” Nicolle Wallace said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

“I don’t think Trump needs the press. But I think he wants them like an addict craves their drugs.”

Ari Fleischer, Bush’s former press secretary, added that Trump can use his hostile relationship with the press to his advantage because confidence in journalists “has never been lower.”

“The press has made itself vulnerable because it lost the trust of their readers and their viewers — and Trump has widely taken advantage of it,” Fleischer said.
