Former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden made a last minute Christmas plea on Twitter, asking activists to help the refugees who helped shelter him in Hong Kong.

In a tweet, Snowden wrote: “Need a last minute gift for the activist in your life? Help the refugees who kept me safe underground resettle in” Canada.

After Snowden leaked classified documents in 2013 about U.S. surveillance, he took shelter in Hong Kong with a group of six refugees. Now, he wants the family to receive help to find shelter in Canada.

The story of the refugees from various countries that helped him was only just made public in September.

Snowden currently has temporary asylum in Russia after the U.S. federal government charged him with espionage.

A new report from the House Select Intelligence Committee found Snowden to be a “serial exaggerator” and a “fabricator.”
