Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee bashed the New York Times and mainstream media on Wednesday, telling Fox News the press will never print a positive story about President-elect Trump “no matter what” good he may do while in office.

“I think this man could walk across the Hudson River and the New York Times would say Donald Trump can’t swim. That’s how bad it is,” Huckabee told Fox News host Bill O’Reilly on Wednesday evening.

“He bypasses the New York Times,” the former 2016 Republican presidential candidate added. “Why would you ever load a gun that’s pointed at your own head? Why would he let the news media be his filter? Why would he allow them to carry his water when they are going to taint it before they deliver it?”

Huckabee charged that journalism is “dead” because the Internet and blogs have created outlets for anyone to write and have their views seen as credible news, with no professional editors to mandate objectivity. He did not specify how fake news has affected newsrooms like the New York Times.

Trump offered Huckabee a spot in his Cabinet leading an undisclosed department, Huckabee, also a Fox News contributor, said, adding that he turned down the offer because it was not a good fit for him.
