President-elect Trump has offered Montana Rep. Ryan Zinke the position of interior secretary, according to multiple reports.

Trump made the offer to Zinke, a retired Navy SEAL commander, to lead the Department of the Interior but the Republican has yet to accept, according to Politico, which cited transition officials and another source.

Zinke endorsed Trump in May, saying the New York businessman “stuck out” to him because of his politically incorrect rhetoric.

The news comes as a surprise: Trump had been expected to name Washington Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, the highest-ranking woman in the GOP House leadership, to the position.

A source close to McMorris Rodgers said the press reports about her expected appointment were “driven” by the Trump transition team. She never received an offer to be secretary of the interior, the person said.

In a Facebook post Tuesday evening, McMorris Rodgers said it “was an honor to be invited to spend time with the president-elect” but said she’s “energized more than ever to continue leading in Congress.”
