House Republican Conference chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers “never received an offer” from President-elect to serve as interior secretary, despite news reports, a source close to her said Tuesday.

Rep. Ryan Zinke, R-Montana, accepted Trump’s offer to serve as Interior Secretary late Tuesday. Just days ago, the New York Times reported McMorris Rodgers would get the nod.

“The Chairwoman had two brief meetings with the President-elect which covered a number of topics,” the source said. “Despite last week’s press reports driven by the Transition Team, she never received an offer to be Secretary of the Interior. She did not receive any information about last week’s press reports nor has she received a call from the President-elect today.”

McMorris Rodgers, the number-four Republican lawmaker in the House, posted this message on her Facebook page:

“It was an honor to be invited to spend time with the President-elect, and I’m energized more than ever to continue leading in Congress as we think big, reimagine this government, and put people back at the center of it.”
