Native Alaskans are vowing to fight President-elect Trump if he attempts to reverse President Obama’s decision to change the name of the highest peak in the state.

President Obama changed the name of the famous peak from Mt. McKinley to Denali, which means “great one” in Athabascan, ahead of visiting the state last year.

At the time, Trump had tweeted that it was an insult to the state of Ohio where the 25th president, William McKinley, was born. Naming the mountain after the president was done to honor McKinley, who was assassinated in his second term in office.

“We wanted that change for a long time, and now we finally have it, and we need to leave it alone,” said Victor Joseph, president of Tanana Chiefs Conference, which represents 42 Athabascan tribes in Alaska, according to the Associated Press. The organization had advocated for the name change for years.

“It was an insult to the first people of this land when they took away the name and gave it to somebody else,” Joseph said. Most Alaskans referred to the mountain as Denali even before Obama officially changed the name.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, chairwoman of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, praised the president for making the change. She also has been a firm critic of Trump, asking him to step down as the nominee this year after a video emerged where the now president-elect could be heard making lewd comments about women.

But members of the Ohio delegation in Congress were outraged by the name change.

It is unclear if Trump would take steps to reverse the Obama administration’s name change at this early stage in the transition to a new administration.

Reversing President Obama’s decision would require either an executive order from Trump or an act of Congress, AP reported, citing a federal board that oversees the naming of places.
