A Pentagon official confirmed Thursday night that the Department of Defense was contacted by President-elect Trump’s transition team today, and will meet with current defense officials Friday.

“Representatives of the president-elect’s transition team contacted the department a short time ago to arrange initial briefings. We expect the first will take place Friday. As Secretary Carter has said, we will do everything we can to help ensure a seamless and efficient transition,” Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook said in a statement.

Trump’s representatives also reached out to the State Department on Thursday.

Some of the people on Trump’s reported short list for Defense secretary are Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., and former Sen. Jim Talent, R-Mo.
