President-elect Trump might be flirting with the idea of selecting South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley as his secretary of state, according to a report Wednesday.
Haley’s lieutenant governor, Henry McMaster, told the Post and Courier that his two-term Republican boss is being considered for multiple administration positions, including the nation’s top diplomat.
“It would be like how Mr. Trump is bringing fresh eyes to running our government,” said McMaster, who said he too is being looked at for a possible administration job.
Trump aide Jason Miller and Republican National Committee communications director Sean Spicer told members of the media Wednesday evening that Haley, among others, will meet with Trump on Thursday, though they made no mention about what exactly she was being considered for.

Consideration for the State job, if true, would be somewhat unexpected, as Haley doesn’t have a great deal of foreign policy experience. Haley had also been a skeptic of Trump throughout his campaign, criticizing him on issues such as his proposed ban on Muslims entering the U.S. Her being the daughter of Indian immigrants might also clash with Trump’s hardline approach to immigration.
