Four years after warning about Russian aggression, Mitt Romney seems prophetic. Even Harry Reid couldn’t deny it, telling BuzzFeed Tuesday night that the presidential hopeful got it right on Russia in 2012. He did not, however, apologize for lying about the former presidential candidate.

Last night’s admission coupled with Reid’s ongoing refusal to rescind his lies about Romney offer a small vignette into his callous career.

Hopping in a time machine, BuzzFeed’s Lissandra Villa asked the Silver State’s outgoing senator if Romney was wrong in his assessment of the former USSR. “Of course not,” Reid responded, “He was right.”

Geopolitical considerations be damned. Reid has no remorse for spreading lies about Romney’s tax returns and sinking his political ambitions. Even Russian troops in Crimea, dead Syrians, and a hacked presidential election can’t prick his dull conscience.

While the crowd was laughing, a grinning Reid quipped that “Mitt and I are pals. We agree on a lot of stuff.”

Their relationship’s a bit more complicated. Reid regularly needles Romney and the former Massachusetts governor’s job interview for secretary of state was no exception. Pointing to the Republican’s old opposition to Trump, he lambasted Romney for trying out for the new administration.

“Mitt Romney is somebody I had respect for,” Reid told The Huffington Post shortly before Trump passed him over for the post, “I have none anymore.”

But Romney might get the last word in the end this time. “As for Mr. Reid,” he responded, “I lost respect for him when he repeatedly lied about my taxes and later admitted to it cheerily. Good riddance, Mr. Reid. The Senate will be better served without you in it.”
